Ever read an article and go, “What? … No way … That can’t be … How has no one reported this yet?! … You’ve got to be kidding me! … Get the f*&^% out of here!” That’s Peter Schweizer’s Reason article Warren Buffett: Baptist and Bootlegger, which details the many ways that beloved business grandpa Warren Buffett is a crony capitalist.

An article I like: For Wounded Vet, Love Pierces the Fog of War
Powerful story in the Wall Street Journal today about a wounded vet and the woman who loves him. I don’t want to say more than that, because reporter Michael M. Phillips says it all so well here.
Remembering Hunter
The world lost a really great dog today. His name was Hunter. He was a gregarious, 13-year-old black lab and he was loved by all who knew him, except squirrels.
I met Hunter when he was just a few months old. His mother Danielle was my first roommate after college. I was moving to Washington, DC, to work for Scripps-Howard News Service and our mutual friend Meredith suggested we meet. Danielle’s rented townhouse in Arlington, Va., was my last stop on a long day of room-hunting.
I met Danielle and Hunter and, in spite of the fact that Danielle went to foul Miami (of Ohio) University, we all got along. Danielle and Hunter and I would go on to live as roommates for one year in Arlington and four years in Santa Monica. So I got to know Hunter pretty well.
Good luck to my friend who is trying to lose weight and gain knowledge
Just want to take a moment from writing about Mitt Romney’s underpants and ridiculous craft beer reviews to congratulate my buddy Smoose on his quest to eat healthier and read more in 2012. He is chronicling his progress on a blog named 12 Piece Dickens Dinner, which I think is a great name, mainly because I thought of it. His goal is to cut out fried foods, which can be difficult in the South, where they have been known to deep-fry Coca-Cola. He also is reading a book a month, which I know Smoose can do because when we were college roommates I know I saw books in his room, although mainly they were used as shelf legs. In any case, good luck, buddy!
I have longed for this
There is now an app that tells you if a parking spot is legal. If you’ve ever seen parking signs in a major city, you know what a nightmare it can be to decipher their often contradictory messages. So far, this is only available in New York, but I hope it makes its way to other cities soon. It is called Can I Park Here NYC?
